
A reluctant offensive participant for the 6th-seeded Arizona State Sun Devils managed to become a key to their game on Friday against the 11th-seeded Temple Owls in Miami, FL. Derek Glasser, who typically averages 8.9 PPG, scored a career 22 points, helping Arizona State advance to the next round as they defeated Temple 66-57.
Temple never led and trailed by as many as 8 halfway through the second half before making a spirited charge to cut their deficit to 52-49, but the Owls could not get any closer for the remainder of the game. A 3-pointer by the Sun Devils’ James Harden put Arizona up 56-49, sealing the win.
Glasser and Jeff Pendergraph shared the high scoring honors for Arizona State with 22 points each – with Glasser making four 3-pointers, grabbing a rebound and dishing out 4 assists while Pendergraph grabbed 7 boards and dished out 2 assists. Temple was led by Dionte Christmas with 29 points (including five 3-pointers), 4 rebounds, an assist and 3 steals while Lavoy Allen added 11 with 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Arizona State will now play on Sunday when they face Syracuse.
