I think it is safe to assume why Oklahoma Sooners forward Blake Griffin is and will be the first pick in the next NBA draft – the dude’s a beast. Kind of like a man among kindergartners, so to speak. In any case, Griffin abused the Michigan Wolverines to the tune of 33 points, leading the 2nd-seeded Sooners to the win over #10 seed Michigan 73-63 Saturday at Kansas City, MO.
Michigan managed to keep it close despite team foul trouble and cut a 13-point to three with just over 6 minutes to go in the first half; but as expected, Griffin led the way for Oklahoma. the Wolverines continuedtheir scoring woes in the secondhalf as they went scoreless for the first 3 1/2 minutes to fall behind by 13 again, but rallied to cut the Sooners’ lead to 58-55 with just over 2 minutes left to go. But Griffin took over, and the win was assured for Oklahoma.
Oklahoma’s high scorer was Griffin with 33 points, 17 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal and a block while Willie Warren added 16 (including three 3-pointers) with a rebound and 4 assists. Michigan was led by DeShawn Sims and Anthony Wright with 14 points each – with Sims grabbing 6 rebounds, dishing out an assist along with a steal while Wright made three treys, grabbed 3 rebounds, dished out an assist along with a steal. Oklahoma plays again on Friday when they face the winner of the Arizona State-Syracuse game.
