Villanova Wildcats 3.28a

In what may have been the most exciting game so far in the 2009 NCAA Tournament the Villanova Wildcats knocked out number one seed from the East the Pitt Panthers 78-76. The contest was decided in the final seconds as Nova guard Scottie Reynolds drove the lane and put the rock up and in for the win. The Wildcats will head to their first Final Four appearance since they shocked the planet back in 1985 and won the NCAA Championship. 

The Wildcats took the early lead in the game as they were on top 22-12 with 9:27 to play in the first half when Dwayne Anderson knocked down a pair at the charity stripe. Pitt however would not only close the gap they would hold the lead at the half by the score of 34-32 courtesy of a pair at the line by Sam Young.

The lead changed hands constantly in the second half as neither team would hold a lead of more than five points in the period. The game literally came down to one play as the score was knotted up with just 2 seconds to play when Reynolds put the ball in the hole to win the game and head to the Final Four.

Dwayne Anderson led a balanced offenisve game plan for Nova as he put up 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals while Scottie Reynolds scored 15 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist. Dante Cunningham scored 14 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 block while Shane Clark added 11 points and 4 rebounds.

Sam Young who played well throughout the Tournament led all players with 28 points, 7 rebounds and 1 block. DeJuan Blair recorded a double-double 20 points, 10 boards, 2 assists and 2 steals while Levance Fields scored 10 points, 6 assists and 3 rebounds in the loss.Villanova lives to play next Saturday.
