It seems like the Kansas Jayhawks is the only Big 12 school in recent memory who has tasted NCAA tournament success; that isn’t a slam on Big 12 basketball whatsoever…I’m just saying.  But nonetheless, the Oklahoma Sooners on Sunday were looking to be join Kansas as another Big 12 school to make it to the Final Four as they took on the North Carolina Tar Heels at Memphis, TN.  Perhaps the only thing that went right for the Sooners during the game was that star forward Blake Griffin got his points, but the Tar Heels shot 51% from the floor as they advanced to the Final Four in Detroit, MI with a 72-60 win over the Sooners.

With Griffin’s teammates shooting poorly, he decided to take things into his own hands, scoring the Sooners’  last 7 points of the first half, yet still trailed at halftime 32-23; the Tar Heels made their first six shots of the second half, eventually going ahead 53-38 on a 3-pointer by Ty Lawson.  North Carolina would go into cruise control from there to ice the victory.

North Carolina’s high scorer was Lawson with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and a block while Danny Green added 18 with 3 rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block.  Oklahoma was led by Griffin with 23 points, 16 rebounds and an assist while Willie Green added 18 with a rebound, 3 assists and a steal.  With the win, North Carolina advances to the Final Four for the 18th time as they will host Villanova next Saturday.
