There is a very strong recent history between the Washington Wizards and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The two teams played each other the last three straight years in the first round of the NBA Post Season with Cleveland prevailing each time. The Wizards due to a lost season caused by injuries will not sniff the Playoffs this time around. However Thursday as they hosted the Cavaliers they had their full starting five on the floor. And with Gilbert Arenas back at guard and Brendan Haywood back in the middle the team from D.C. won the game 109-101.

Caron Butler led the way for the Wizards with 25 points as his team shot 50.6% ( 41-81) from the floor for the game. Agent Zero and Haywood each recorded a double-double for Washington and the Wizards put an end to the Cleveland winning streak which had lasted 13 straight games.

Washington never led by a big margin but led most of the contest. The Wizards would take a 22-19 lead at the end of the first quarter. Anderson Varejao would knot the game up at 32-32 with 5:37 in the second when he knocked down a mid-range jump shot.

But Washington would soon pull ahead and put some distance between the two teams at the half as Arenas drove the lane putting the ball in the bucket with 1 second left giving his team a 59-51 advantage. Andray Blatche hit a pair at the line with 19 seconds left in the third and the Wizards went on top 80-70 as the period expired. Cleveland never would get any closer than being 4 points down in the last 12 minutes of play.

Caron Butler had 25 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds and 1 steal while Antawn Jamison dropped 19 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal. Big man Darius Songaila came off the bench with 17 points, 6 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal while Brendan Haywood scored 12 points, 10 rebounds and 1 assist. Agent Zero put in 11 points, 10 assists, 6 rebounds and 1 block while Nick Young added 10 points, 1 assist and 1 steal.

LeBron James led all players with 31 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Also in double figures for the Cavaliers; Mo Williams had 19 points, Delonte West scored 14 more and Anderson Varejao added 10 points. Washington after the victory has an 18-59 record. Cleveland still has the best record in the Association at 61-14.
