The world is not coming to an end in Cleveland, thanks in part to LeBron James – as usual. The MVP candidate and Cavaliers golden boy was on fire for the Cavaliers, as the team stopped a stunning two-game losing streak with an impressive 101-81 win over the Southwest leading San Antonio Spurs.

“If I’d be them I’d be really worried,” Spurs coach Greg Popovich stated as he joked with the media after the game. “I don’t think they are going to win anymore games the way they played tonight. So we gave them one, just to get them where we wanted them. That was that, I don’t really know what else to say.”

Popovich may have been joking, but he was serious about how good the Cavs played in topping the Spurs, as they pulled away with a 27-15 second quarter that saw James, who started fast with 14, get other players like Delonte West and Mo Williams involved. James led the way with 38 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists as the Cavs improved to 62-15 on the season.

Both Williams and West had 22 points, but it was West’s driving ability that got the Cavs into a nice inside-outside game that saw them build the comfortable lead of 13 at the half, and then 15 at the end of the third quarter. The Spurs made some runs, but West and Williams’ combined 6-for-8 from three-point range made sure that the Cavs never lost the lead in the second half.

The Cavs defense also was back to form, as they held all five Spurs starters minus Tony Parker, who had 24 points, to single digits in scoring. Tim Duncan, who bailed from the Spurs locker room before the media was even able to enter, had just six points on 2-for-7 shooting.

Overall the Spurs were held to just 39 percent from the field, while the Cavs started strong and ended the same way, going 39-for-73 for 53 percent. Overall they were also 8-for-18 from three-point range, 44 percent, while the Spurs were 4-for-16, 25 percent.

With the regular season drawing ever closer to completion, the Cavs have once again gotten back to form and put others on notice that with now being 37-1 at home, playing, and beating them in Cleveland is going to be a tall order in the postseason. San Antonio found that out the hard way on Sunday.
