The Indiana Pacers, despite not going to the playoffs this season, could have chosen to do what a lot of teams in their position do – pack it in. In their game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday, they perhaps showed what they were made of as a team as they somehow managed to overcome a 17-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat Milwaukee 115-108 at Conseco Fieldhouse in the season finale for both teams.
The Bucks led 35-29 in the secod quarter before the Pacers manufactured an 11-0 run which allowed them to take control; Danny Granger scored 19 points in the first half as Indiana took a 56-49 lead into halftime. But Milwaukee would open the third quarter with a 14-4 run, capped by a 3-pointer by Richard Jefferson, which gave the Bucks a 71-60 advantage; they would lead 88-72 going into the fourth quarter.
Milwaukee had a 95-80 lead in the final period before Indiana went on a 8-2 run which included treys by Granger and Brandon Rush; Granger would another 3-pointer, which gave the Pacers a 103-101 lead with 3 minutes remaining in the game. Two minutes later, a Josh McRoberts layup gave the Pacers a 109-103 lead, essentially icing the game.
Indiana’s high scorer was Granger with 35 points (including five 3-pointers), 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks, but committed 6 turnovers while Rush added 24 (including 4 treys) with 5 rebounds, a steal and a block; Troy Murphy notched a double-double as he chipped in 11 with 12 rebounds while Jarrett Jack, despite scoring only 8 points, dished out 10 assists.
Milwaukee was led by Jefferson with 31 points (including three 3-pointers), 4 rebounds, an assist, 3 steals and a block while Luc Richard Mbah a Moute added 19 with 11 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal; Charlie Bell pitched in 16 (including three treys) with 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals. Indiana completes their season with a record of 36-46 while Milwaukee completes their 2009 season at 34-48.
