Lakers Offensive Show Put Jazz Out Of Tune; Win 113-100
Posted by Jeff Sack under NBA Game Recap, NBA PLAYOFFS

Sunday’s 113-100 drubbing of the Utah Jazz by the Los Angeles Lakers at the Staples Center confirmed what most NBA observers had suspected since the match-up was finalized. This has the potential to be a very short and very one-sided series. Los Angeles pulled out to a huge advantage in the first half and Utah never really was able top climb out of the hole they fell into the rest of the game.
The Lakers shot a volcanic hot 55.6% (40-72) from the floor and had three starters who scored at least 20 points. Utah shot an anemic 39.1% (34-87) and an embarrassing 23.1 % (3-13) from outside the arc.The Jazz had strong games from Carlos Boozer who scored a game high 27 points, Deron Williams who recorded a double-double and Paul Millsap had a good game off the bench. Other than that the Jazz did not get much from their offense.
The Lakers opened up with their shooting touch finely honed and they wound on top of a very large cushion as they led 30-19 at the end of the quarter. Los Angeles for all intent and purposes ended the contest at the half as they would head into their locker-room at the half on top 62-40.
Jazz coach Jerry Sloan apparently did not believe his team had been sufficiently humiliated in the first half and so he brought them back out for the second. Utah finally showed a pulse in the third quarter as they cut the Lakers lead down considerably. Carlos Boozer with 2 seconds to play in the period slammed the ball through the cylinder and the Jazz trailed 86-73 as the period came to a close. Utah was never a serious threat to overtake Los Angeles in the final 12 minutes of action.
Kobe Bryant had 24 points, 8 assists, 2 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 block while Trevor Ariza contributed 21 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Pau Gasol scored 20 points, 9 rebounds, 4 blocks, 2 steals and 1 assist while Lamar Odom came off the bench with 13 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1 assist.
Carlos Boozer was the game’s leading scorer with 27 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Deron Williams had a double-double 16 points, 17 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals while Paul Millsap came off the bench and added 15 points, 8 rebounds and 1 assist. Los Angeles will look to make their lead in their first round Playoff series 2-0 Tuesday night at the Staples Center.
