One thing that the Dallas Mavericks have been in their recent playoff history is ineffective on the road, as evidenced in their nine previous road losses – dating back to 2006. But the Mavericks decided to do something about that issue as they shot 54% from the floor, defeating the San Antonio Spurs Saturday 105-97 at AT&T Center.
The game was relatively close, despite San Antonio outscoring Dallas 29-18 in the first quarter; the Mavericks would rebound as they outscored the Spurs 27-20 to go into their locker room only down 49-45. Things got closer until a basket by the Mavericks’ Jose Barea hit a running floater with 5:31 left to go, making it 93-83; Dallas would hang on for the victory.
Dallas’ high scorer was Josh Howard with 25 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal while Dirk Nowitzki added 19 with 8 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and a block; Erick Dampier notched a double-double as he scored 10 points with 11 rebounds.
San Antonio was led by Tim Duncan with 27 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists while Tony Parker added 24 with 4 rebounds and 8 assists but committed 5 turnovers; Michael Finley chipped in 19 (including five 3-pointers) with 4 rebounds. Dallas will again face San Antonio on Monday evening.
