The NBA announced Monday that Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star forward LeBron James has been named the NBA MVP for the 2008-2009 regular season. James who is in his sixth NBA campaign is the second youngest player in the history of the Association to receive the honor. Former Baltimore Bullets legend Wes Unseld is the only player to win the honor at a younger age.

The “Chosen One” told reporters “I’m 24 years old and I’m receiving this award, I never thought it would happen this fast. I never dreamed about being MVP, but if I said I didn’t enjoy this award I’d be lying. Hard work pays off and dreams do come true.

LBJ received the award at a press conference held at his alma mater St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio. “King James” said that he could not think of a more appropriate venue to receive the honor at. He said “This is a place where all my dreams started and where I thought they could become real. There’s really not a better place.”

Out of a possible 121 first place votes the forward captured 109 of them. Last year’s winner Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant finished second while Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade came in third. Rounding out the top five in the voting; Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard and New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul.

LBJ led Cleveland to the franchise’s best record in team history as they finished as the number one seed in the Association with a 66-16 record. James averaged 28.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.2 assists during the regular season. He credited his teammates with helping him attain the award. He told reporters “Individual accolades come when team success happens. You look at those 14 guys over there, I got the award because of them. They put in the work. This award is going to be like the both of ours, but I’m going to keep it at my house!”
