Hall Of Fame Legend Dave Bing Elected New Mayor Of Motown

The “Associated Press” reported Tuesday that Basketball Hall Of Fame and former NBA great Dave Bing was elected Mayor of Detroit in a special run-off election to fill the term of former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. Bing defeated his opponent Ken Cockrel Jr. as the winner received 52.3% of the vote while Cockrel ended up with 47.7%. Both men ran as Democrats.
The 65 year old Bing played most of his career with the Detroit Pistons being named NBA Rookie Of The Year in 1966. Bing would play two years for the Washington Bullets, and retire at the end of the 1977-1978 campaign with the Boston Celtics. He averaged 20.3 points and 6 assists per game and made 7 NBA All-Star teams. Bing will have to run in a primary on August 4, to serve a full four year term.
