Apparently, Kurt Rambis needed more time to decide as to whether to become the next coach for the Sacramento Kings. Apparently, the franchise didn’t feel like waiting any longer as they have agreed in principle to hire Paul Westphal as their next coach, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.
Truth be told, I had not even thought of Westphal as a possibility for a coaching vacancy; however, in retrospect, this is a very good selection by Sacramento. Westphal has been successful during his coaching career; during stops at Phoenix and Seattle, he amassed an impressive 267-159 record. Prior to his recent hiring, he was in the front office of the Dallas Mavericks.
How his coaching style and philosophy translates with the Kings is hard to decipher at the moment as he has been out of the coaching ranks for a few seasons. The Kings had a chance to possibly hire Boston Celtics assistant coach Tom Thibodeau but pulled himself out of consideration earlier today (Tuesday).
