As we get ready for game four of the 2009 NBA Finals we welcome our first visit from the all time leading scorer in NBA history Basketball Hall of Fame legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Kareem has chosen Slam Dunk Central as one of a select few NBA sites on the planet that he will answer questions posed by us twice a month. Slam Dunk Central is extremely excited about our new partnership the NBA Legend’s own website KareemAbdulJabbar.com.  If you have questions that you would like us to pose to Kareem in the future just drop us an e-mail!

Because we are right now in the midst of the NBA Finals we asked Kareem this time around his thoughts on two pertinent subjects. The different scheduling format used in the NBA Finals and Los Angeles Lakers All-Star guard Kobe Bryant.

SDC Kareem we are all a sum of our life’s experiences some play a more prominent role in our lives than others. From my perspective the 2008 Olympics experience truly seemed to be a defining moment for Kobe Bryant and it seems to have had a major effect on the way he now conducts himself on and off the court. Do you think that is an apt observation; and if so why do you think it has had such a strong influence on Kobe?

KAJ statesI think the Olympics had a strong influence on Kobe because he is more mature and is seeing more of the big picture. He wants to make a good impression on the public and be remembered as a class act.”

SDC: A major factor in the decision that caused the NBA to switch to a 2-3-2 format in the Finals was the rivalry that your team had back in the 1980’s with the Boston Celtics. To cut down on coast to coast flights the Association changed the rules which now gives the lower seed three straight games in their arena at a critical time of the series. Do you think that the present set-up is the best or is the team with the higher seed getting unduly penalized?

KAJ states: “I think its fair because the higher seed has to win at home. Even though the lower seed gets three consecutive games at home I think it balances out.”

Thanks Kareem! We also want to extend thanks to Kareem’s website KareemAbdulJabbar.com make sure you go there and check them out! You can also Twitter Kareem during the games for the rest of the Finals at KAJ33.
