Hawks Trying To Get Crawford

The Golden State Warriors and Atlanta Hawks are apparently making some pre-draft noise as according to the Associated Press, both teams are putting together a deal that will bring shooting guard Jamal Crawford to Atlanta  in exchange for guards Acie Law and Speedy Claxton.

There are some minor speed bumps to overcome before the trade can essentially be consummated; Crawford cannot be traded until July 1 or until he signs some paperwork that indicates that he will not opt out of his contract and become a free agent.  Once that has been accomplished, the trade could be completed within the next few days or so.

Sounds like a good trade, especially for Atlanta as contract negotiations between the Hawks and point guard Mike Bibby are contentious at the moment.  Crawford isn’t a true point guard; however, he could fit in well as Joe Johnson has shown he can dish the ball in addition to scoring at his usual 20+PPG rate.

Assuming the trade takes place, it will not look good for Bibby.  Meanwhile, Golden State never really had Crawford in their long-term plans anyways, so unloading his contract was inevitable; they also get a pair of point guards as part of the deal.  I will assume – unless training camp proves otherwise – that Claxton will be the starting point guard for the Warriors.  When more details become available, Slam Dunk Central will bring them to you.
