2009 is one year where you can honestly say that there’s plenty of NBA trade talk.  And Thursday is no different as according to Chad Ford of ESPN.com, a blockbuster deal is getting hot and heavy between the New Jersey Nets and Orlando Magic.  Here’s how the deal looks at the time of this post.

New Jersey would send Vince Carter to Orlando for the trio of Rafer Alston, Tony Battie and Courtney Lee.  And as of this post, the likelihood of this trade going down is looking very high.  Orlando, assuming the trade is successful, will have yet acquired another quality piece to their roster and would probably have to be considered the favorite going into next season as the favorite to win the Eastern Conference.

Battie and Alston are in the last year of their current contracts, so the Nets will realize some substantial salary cap relief – $16.5 million worth – in the summer of 2010 and put the team well below the salary cap.  They also get a decent shooting guard in Lee, an up-and-comer; the rebuilding project that is the New Jersey Nets continues.
