Another name has been added to the list of guys the Cleveland Cavaliers have interest in, as free-agent power forward Channing Frye was in the house in Independece on Monday, talking to Danny Ferry and Cavs officials. Whle Frye is a decent forward, the PD reports that he’s not the only power forwards they are looking to add to the roster.
“I do think I’m a good fit. I think having a big that can create space for LeBron, Shaq and Mo [Williams] can’t hurt,” Frye said via e-mail. “I feel like all the teams have a great opportunity for me to play and for me to contribute, especially [in Cleveland] — to be a part of history.”
Last season Frye was beat up after he had surgery to remove bone spurs from his ankle. It was the worst year in his career, as he put up just 4.2 points and 2.2 rebounds in 63 games playing for the Trail Blazers.
While Frye was in town, no doubt there’s other players still on the list for the Cavs:
Shawn Marion – The Cavs have solid interest in him, but the latest is there’s talk of a deal being close to done with the Dallas Mavs, who also inked guard Jason Kidd Monday.
Linas Kleiza – The Denver restricted free agent and the Cavs have talked, and in 82 games last year he put up 9.9 points per game and 4 rebounds per game. Being a restricted free agent, some things need to be done in order to grab him.
Antonio McDyess – The Cavs wanted him last year before he went back to the Pistons, and now he’s out there again. In 62 games last year he had averages of 9.6 ppg, 9.8 rebounds per game and shot 51 percent from the field.
Anderson Varejao – The Cavs own free agent is their number one target according to sources. He won’t get the $10 mil per season he wants on the open market, but “Wild Thing” would be better off staying with the Cavs, and since the team really does want him back, it’s the best fit.
