Dallas Mavericks All-Star forward Dirk Nowitzki will have a new running partner starting next season in a deal that should make the team from the Southwest Division quite a bit stronger. “NBA.com” has reported that a three-way trade has taken place that will send Toronto Raptors forward Shawn Marion to Dallas and in turn veteran Jerry Stackhouse will be sent to the Memphis Grizzlies. The trade will now give Toronto salary cap room to sign former Orlando Magic forward Hedo Turkoglu to a free agent deal. Confused? Don’t worry all will be explained.

Marion signed a reported five year pact with the Raptors who then traded the veteran forward to Dallas. The Mavericks did not have enough salary cap space to take on Marion’s contract so they needed to involve a third team the Memphis Grizzlies to take Stackhouse. Stackhouse has a deal that calls for him to be paid $7 million next season but if he is waived before August 10, the team would only owe him $2 million. Memphis is expected to waive the veteran.

Dallas now has a tough gutty player in Marion that should help Nowitzki and Josh Howard take the team to another level. The Mavericks earlier came to terms with Jason Kidd which will keep him in the fold as well. Toronto benefits by freeing up cap space to sign the former Magic forward Turkoglu.
