Rasheed Meets Celtics Nation

Posted by Jeff Sack under NBA Free Agents

Rasheed Wallace said all the right things as he was introduced to the media in a press conference after signing a free agent deal with the Boston Celtics. According to the “Associated Press” the only numbers the veteran is worried about are in the wins column. Wallace speaking to reporters at the media gathering said “Two minutes, 30 minutes, whatever, as long as I’m contributing to the team for the ‘W’. If I score a point and we win, hey, it’s the sorriest point I’ve ever scored but we got the win. That beats 100 points and a loss any day.”

Wallace told reporters that it did not matter if he started or played off the bench with the “Green Team” as they go for franchise title number 18 in the upcoming season. Boston wanted Wallace as soon as they lost in the Playoffs to the Orlando Magic putting an end to any hopes of getting back to back NBA Titles. The “Big Three” Celtics veterans Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett reached out to Wallace to let him know how much they wanted him on their roster.  Allen told reporters “Rasheed was at the top of the list for all of us. We even talked about it during the year because we knew he was going to be a free agent.”

There was plenty of competition for the services of the former Detroit Pistons big man. Cleveland, Dallas, Orlando and the San Antonio Spurs were all wanting to bring Wallace on board. However Boston President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge believes that what got them the player they coveted was the team they already had assembled. Ainge said “I think it’s because of who these guys are on the court that Rasheed wanted to come here.”
