Salary Cap May Work To Cleveland’s Advantage In Signing LBJ
Posted by Matt Loede under NBA Free Agents, NBA Rumors

It seems that all the hoopla about 2010 may be a bit unfounded, as it appears that more than ever, LeBron James is going to have good reason to stay a member of the Cavaliers. Cavaliers beat writer Brian Windhorst of the Plain Dealer has written a piece about the salary cap for NEXT season, and it appears it may go down between $4 and $7 million.
Why is that good if your a Cavs fan? It simply means that James, maybe the biggest free agent in league history next off-season, would make far more money by sticking around and playing with the wine and gold. As Windhorst points out, the Cavs could actually have enough money to sign both James and his new pal – Shaquille O’Neal.
One thing they most likely won’t have a lot of money for is a lot of other free agents. That means the pipe dream that Cleveland fans seem to have in their heads about Chris Bosh joining the Cavs and James and co. is very unlikley.
The salary cap for the league fell about $1 million this offseason, only the second time in 25 years that the cap has droppped. With the cap dropping, the Cavs can also give James around $2 million more per season and larger raises than a new team can, giving him many more reasons to stay in Cleveland.
And a lot Cavs more reasons to sleep easy tonight
