The Time Is Now For LBJ To Commit To The Cavaliers

In the past few months, LeBron James’ image has taken a bit of a hit. First there was “handshake gate,” where after game six of the Eastern Conference Finals vs Orlando, the final game of the Cavaliers season, James left the court without shaking hands with Dwight Howard, or any of the other Magic for that matter.

Now this past week we’ve had the Nike Skills Academy fiasco, as a tape was confiscated that showed James getting two-hand dunked on by Xavier college player Jordan Crawford. There still seems to be more questions than answers about the whole thing. One story is James had nothing to do with asking a Nike official to take the tape of the dunk during the pickup game, another is that James was the force behind the tape being taken away.

So now that James has taken some hits the past few months, there’s one thing left for him to do to rebuild himself – ink the extension that will keep him a Cavalier. Yes, it is a pipe dream, as there’s no way James is even close to doing it, but how would James look today if he called a press conference saying that he was committed to being a Cavalier for the next 3-4 seasons.

There’s no logical reason for James NOT to sign an extension. The salary cap in the NBA is going down next year, meaning that the Cavaliers will be able to offer him more money and years than any other team. The organization has gone well out of its way to build a new practice court closer to his home, look to or sign player to build a championship team, and make just about every concession they can to keep their star happy.

The Cavaliers plan on being a title contender for the next few seasons. Losing James of course changes all that, but he holds the cards to keeping the club on course to finally win their first NBA title. It’s almost inevitable that James is going to be back after this upcoming season, so why make you and your team have to answer all the “where are you going to play after this season” question?

James and Cleveland are a perfect fit. Taking care of business now with a three-year deal will stop all the questions that James and the team don’t want to have to answer, and will also cement James as the true “King” of Cleveland now and for years to come.
