T-Wolves To Name Rambis As New Bench Boss!
Posted by Jeff Sack under NBA Head Coach, NBA Hirings

This truly could be an old Henny Youngman joke; A man calls up his wife and says Honey I have good news and bad news. The wife asks her husband what the good news is and he responds he is going to get his first head coaching position in the NBA. The wife responds that the news is wonderful what could possibly be the bad news? The man answers the team is the Minnesota Timberwolves! We can only theorize how Kurt Rambis actually broke the news to his family but according to the “St. Paul Pioneer Press” Rambis will become the next head coach of the T-Wolves.
Rambis who has been a long time assistant coach with Phil Jackson and the Los Angeles Lakers has been confirmed as the new field general for Minnesota according to the paper by Team Owner Glen Taylor. Taylor told the paper “Kurt, with his experience playing and coaching for a winning organization and working under people like Pat Riley, will bring a lot to our organization. In meeting with him and talking to him, I know he’s very excited about having an opportunity to help build his own team.”
Rambis is a former NBA player know for his going all out on the court. Rambis was not blessed with great talent but he played with reckless abandon and all out hustle. He was so popular as a player that he had his won group of fans that wore his trademark horn rimmed glasses to games.
Rambis will have his work cut out for him with the T-Wolves a team that has gone through four coaching changes in the last five seasons. The team from Minnesota now has a new President and a roster that is in flux to put it kindly. The Timberwolves finished with a 24-58 record this past season and to expect much improvement from the team as presently constituted is unrealistic. However as Taylor did state Rambis will have the opportunity to build his own team as the only way this club can go is up.
