Powe Says All The Right Things As He Becomes A Cavalier!
Posted by Jeff Sack under NBA Free Agents, NBA News

The “Associated Press” reported that the newest member of the Cleveland Cavaliers Leon Powe was introduced to the Cleveland media via a conference call on Thursday. Powe will certainly make himself a favorite of the Cleveland fans as he said all the right things about his new opportunity. Powe the former Boston Celtics big man signed a two year deal with Cleveland with the first year guaranteed and the second year on a club option. He will also be paid the Association minimum for a three year veteran by Cleveland as he attempts to recover from surgery on his left anterior cruciate ligament.
Powe was injured in game two of the first round of the NBA Playoffs and was gone for the season. Powe showed this veteran NBA observer quite a bit over the last two campaigns with Boston; and if the forward can accomplish the same things in a Cavaliers uniform he would turn into quite a valuable asset for his new team. Lack of front-court depth was Cleveland’s main problem in the Eastern Conference Finals against Orlando. Putting Powe on the roster would do quite a lot to shore up the Cavaliers front line core.
When the Boston Celtics lost the “Big Ticket“ Kevin Garnett to injury last season it was Powe who stepped into the void along with the Big Baby Glen Davis and kept the team competitive. But when Powe was lost in the Playoffs due to injury it was too much for the team to overcome and lost to the Magic. Powe however was deemed no longer a need for Boston after they signed free agent Rasheed Wallace last month.
Powe told reporters that he wanted to prove this season that he could fully recover from the surgery. He said “The money is not the issue with me. The issue is I want to get my knee back healthy and go out there and play basketball. The money will come.”
The young man told reporters that he had truly wanted for a deal to work out with the Celtics. He said “It’s always tough leaving the place you started. I gave them every opportunity to have me over there, which didn’t work out. It wasn’t my fault. I had to move on.”
However the big man is very excited to be signed with the Cavaliers. Powe told reporters ”Shaq is one of the greatest players of all time and ‘Bron is going to be right there in that category. Those are two great personalities. That’s the fun thing about playing with guys like them. They’re easy to get along with and it’s easy to play with them.”

Celtcs didn’t get a full touch with Powe because of his injury, but Cavs got a very effective bench player to rest out Shaquille.
