Rose, Thomas Nursing Injuries; Out vs. Jazz

Derrick Rose

I think that, despite this being the early stages of the NBA preseason, the Chicago Bulls have been somewhat bitten by the injury bug. Right now, center Aaron Gray is out with a stress fracture in his leg and John Salmons is away due to his pregnant wife (not exactly an injury but nonetheless one less body on the roster right now). But according to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune, two prominent Bulls will not suit up for the Tuesday game against the Utah Jazz in London: guard Derrick Rose and forward Tyrus Thomas.

Rose is dealing with a sore right Achilles heel and ankle while Thomas is nursing a right hip contusion; neither player has practiced since the team arrived in the U.K. on Sunday. According to Rose in reference to his injuries:

“I still can’t run. The training staff said it would heal in three to five days. At first, I was down a little bit because I thought it could be weeks or something. I’m mad I’m missing this game. I came out here for no reason. But I should be able to practice Friday.”

Fortunately for the Bulls, they will leave London on Wednesday and take Thursday off, giving Rose and Thomas around three days to recuperate. But what this does is allow players (rookies and free agents alike) to get some extended playing time and hope to impress the team’s coaches and management. So look for Chicago to suit up only 10 players for their Tuesday tilt vs. the Jazz.
