As anyone who has suffered from a hamstring injury knows, that area of the body can be problematic at times. If you’re Allen Iverson, I am sure that he would agree. Nonetheless, the newly acquired guard is going through a dilemma as to when he will be available for the Memphis Grizzlies.

The way things are currently going, according to Mike Cranston of the Associated Press, Iverson’s chances of playing in the team’s opener against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday seem slim as he is trying to recover from a partially torn hamstring.

Iverson, in his own words, says that he for the most part has been pain-free during practices yet also states that the Grizzlies medical staff may not clear him for the season opener, adding:

“They’re saying it’s a possibility, but it’s also a longshot. You know that’s one of the ones I definitely want to play.”

Regardless of the medical staff’s prognosis, Iverson says that he will not be out for very long as his rehab is progressing well from the injury suffered during a scrimmage on October 4. As one would expect, that puts him behind the eight-ball as he will have to learn the team’s plays.

While Iverson’s status is in limbo, assuming that he isn’t able to play in Memphis’ season opener, look for either Mike Taylor to take his spot in the lineup or move O.J. Mayo to shooting guard and start Mike Conley to the starting point guard position.
