Celtics Chew Up And Spit Out Bobcats; Win 92-59
Posted by Jeff Sack under NBA Game Recap

So much for the “New And Improved” Charlotte Bobcats; the team that faced the Boston Celtics at the “New Garden” Wednesday night looked like an NBA expansion team playing their first game in the Association. The Celtics without really even breaking a sweat tore apart the B-Cats in a 92-59 drubbing giving the “Green Team” a 2-0 start to the campaign. Ray Allen led Boston with 18 points one of five Celtics players in double figures. Gerald Wallace was the only player to get into double figures for Charlotte with 10 points.
To use the word contest for this event would be a gross misstatement. This was two teams that did not belong in the same area code. The Celtics did not play a good game they were sloppy at times and settled for low percentage shots. However it did not matter as the team from Charlotte looked dazed and confused from the opening tip.
You know things are going well for your team when you can only manage 22 points and still have a 9 point advantage at the end of a period as Boston did leading the Bobcats 22-13 as the first quarter came to an end. Charlotte did display a pulse in the second quarter but they were even further behind as Boston walked into the locker room with a 42-31 lead.
Bobcats coach Larry Brown apparently did not feel his team was sufficiently punished in the first half; so he brought them back onto the court for the third quarter. Bad move coach. Charlotte was only able to put 10 points on the board in the third and Boston had a 67-41 lead heading into the final period. The fourth quarter was just 12 minutes of extended garbage time.
Ray Allen led all players with 18 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds and 2 steals in the Celtics victory. Paul Pierce put 15 points on the score sheet, 4 assists and 3 rebounds while Shelden Williams came off the pine and added 12 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block and 1 steal. Rajon Rondo recorded a double-double with 10 points, 11 assists, 3 rebounds and 3 steals while Kevin Garnett also had 10 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks, 1 assist and 1 steal.
Charlotte had just one player score in double figures as Gerald Wallace recorded a double-double with 10 points, 12 boards and 2 steals in the loss. Boston now has a 2-0 record they will host the Chicago Bulls Saturday night. Charlotte is now 0-1 and will have their home opener on Friday against the New York Knicks.
