Richard Hamilton

The Detroit Pistons could very well be without one of their scoring threats Friday as Richard Hamilton, according to A. Sherrod Blakely of MLive.com, injured his ankle in the team’s win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday.

Hamilton, with less than 5 minutes to go in the game, hurt his ankle when he was fouled by the Grizzlies’ O.J. Mayo; after making one of two free throws, the Pistons had to call a 20-second timeout to replace him.

Fortunately for Hamilton, X-rays proved negative, but he had to be carted off the floor in a wheelchair. According to Hamilton:

“Usually, I try to walk it off, but when I went to the free throw line, I couldn’t push off of it.”

The Pistons said that Hamilton would be reevaluated on Thursday (today); should Hamilton become unavailable for Friday’s game against Oklahoma City, the likely replacement for Rip would be Ben Gordon.

Pistons can ill afford to lose Rip for an extended period of time. This is a team that relies on offense and Rip provides steady offense.
