Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol, as most of us already know, is having some issues regarding his right hamstring, of which has caused him to miss all of the preseason and regular season thus far. When the initial injury was first diagnosed as a hamstring strain, the team, while concerned, weren’t in panic mode.

But according to Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times, Gasol’s injury may be more severe than originally diagnosed. Because his hammy has been slow to heal, Gasol opted to get another examination; it is a good thing that he did. A sonogram performed on Monday revealed that he might have a slight tear of the hamstring.

He also has an MRI performed Monday, of which the test results hopefully will be available today; according to team spokesman John Black:

“It’s not as sophisticated a test. That’s why we are doing the MRI. It’s much more sophisticated.”

When the test results become available, Slam Dunk Central will have them for you. While the Lakers certainly are hurting without Gasol in the lineup, I would not yet submit to you that the team is in panic mode – yet. Fortunately, they have a very capable backup in Lamar Odom to play power forward with Josh Powell backing him up. But make no mistake – the Lakers are a much better team with Gasol in the lineup.
