The Boston Blitz; Celtics Pound Sixers 105-74 Now 5-0!
Posted by Jeff Sack under NBA Game Recap

Here is an indication of just how well things have been going so far for the Boston Celtics this season. Tuesday night at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia the “Green Team” got a combined 8 points from All-Stars Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen and still defeated the Philadelphia 76ers by 31 points 105-74. Boston shot a torrid 56.9% (41-72) and an incredible 70% (14-20) from outside the arc winning their fifth straight game to stay undefeated so far in the young campaign. Paul Pierce led all players with 21 points.
When the Celtics won the NBA Title two years ago the thing that struck this veteran NBA observer was how quickly they had solidified as a team. Boston once again went through a pretty big renovation this past summer and the same thing has happened once again. This squad looks like they have been playing with each other for years and are in mid-season form.
Both teams started out slowly in this game as the Celtics had a slim 19-17 lead at the end of the first quarter. Boston found their offense in the second but the Sixers did not which resulted in a 44-36 Celtics lead as the team reached the half.
Things did not improve for Philadelphia in the third quarter and this game hit blow-out status by the conclusion on the period as Boston was on top 69-54. The fourth quarter was truly nothing more than 12 minutes of garbage time as the Celtics totally blew the Sixers out during the period.
Paul Pierce led the way with 21 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals in the Celtics win. Rasheed Wallace had a strong night off the bench as he had 20 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 1 block while Eddie House added 12 points and 1 assist. Rajon Rondo contributed 11 points, 5 assists, 4 steals and 2 rebounds while Shelden Williams came off the pine with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 1 assist.
Andre Iguodala led Philadelphia with 17 points, 3 assists, 3 steals and 1 rebound. Thaddeus Young was the only other Sixers player with double figures as he scored 11 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds and 1 steal. Boston now 5-0 will attempt to keep their perfect streak alive Wednesday as they will head to Minnesota and face the Timberwolves. Philadelphia now has a record of 2-2 and will host the New Jersey Nets on Friday.
