Remember last season when the San Antonio Spurs were booted from the playoffs by the Dallas Mavericks? Fans of the Spurs remember that series all too well. Both teams met again Wednesday night in a rematch of sorts, with the major difference being that Tony Parker and Tim Duncan weren’t available to suit up for the Spurs. That would mean that their offense would come from somewhere else this contest. Typically, one would think that Manu Ginobili would be the go-to guy, but in this case, it would be Richard Jefferson as he would pour in 29 points, enabling San Antonio to exact some revenge, defeating Dallas 92-83 at AT&T Center.

The first quarter was one of attrition as neither team shot well as both teams went into the second quarter tied at 21-all. The Spurs would take a 9-point lead at 41-32 on a Ginobili 3-pointer with 4:03 left in the half; a Jefferson jumper boosted the Spurs advantage to double-digits. Ginobili would drain a trey at the buzzer, allowing San Antonio to take a 51-38 lead going into halftime.

The Spurs would increase their advantage to 16 on an Antonio McDyess jumper; their lead would level off at 15 going into the fourth quarter. The Mavericks would make a run of sorts, narrowing Dallas’ lead to 83-79 on a Jason Kidd three-pointer; after a Mavericks timeout, Matt Bonner would hit a trey with 3:02 left, icing the game for the Spurs.

Jefferson led San Antonio with 29 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and a block while Ginobili and Keith Bogans scored 13 each – with Ginobili making three treys along with 4 rebounds, 5 assists, a steal and a block while Bogans grabbed 3 rebounds, dished out 2 assists along with a steal  and a block.

Dallas was led by Dirk Nowitzki with 29 points, 12 rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block while Jason Terry added 19 with 2 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. San Antonio (4-3) plays again on Saturday when they host the Oklahoma City Thunder while Dallas (5-3) travels to Minneapolis to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday.
