The Los Angeles Lakers went into the locker room at the Pepsi Center in Denver Friday night trailing the Denver Nuggets by a 58-56 margin. The Lakers returned to the court in the third quarter but much to their dismay they forgot to bring their offense with them. The Nuggets would outscore Los Angeles 29-8 in the third and the Lakers only managed 23 points the entire second half. Denver would win an absolute laugher defeating the defending NBA Champions 105-79.

Carmelo Anthony would lead all players with a game high 25 points but the real story was the Nuggets defense holding the usually high flying Lakers to a miserable 35.2% (31-88) from the floor for the game. Los Angeles was led by Andrew Bynum and Kobe Bryant who would each score 19 points in what was the team’s second loss in this young NBA season.

The Lakers would actually hold the lead by a 28-26 margin at the end of the first. Denver would grab the lead at the half but it was still either team’s game to take as the Nuggets walked into the locker room with a slim 58-56 lead. What ever took place in the visitor’s locker room during the half time break Los Angeles head coach Phil Jackson has to make sure it never occurs again this season.

When the two teams came back to play in the third the Lakers looked dazed and confused as if they had not even been in the building for the first 24 minutes of play. They showed no cohesion on either end of the floor and by the end of the quarter trailed Denver 87-64. The fourth quarter was nothing more than 12 minutes of garbage time.

Carmelo Anthony would lead the way with 25 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists in the Nuggets victory. J.R. Smith came off the bench with 20 points while both Denver center Nene and guard Ty Lawson had 13 points apiece. Kenyon Martin just missed a double-double with 10 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 1 block.

Andrew Bynum recorded a double-double with 19 points, 15 boards and 1 block while Kobe Bryant also added 19 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal. Lamar Odom scored 14 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal while Ron Artest had 11 points, 6 assists and 3 rebounds. Denver now sitting at 7-3 will be off until Tuesday when the play host to the Toronto Raptors. Los Angeles is now 7-2 and will host the Houston Rockets Sunday.
