Who would’ve thought that two boneheaded decisions could be made in one week, with the first being the New Orleans Hornets canning coach Byron Scott? Well folks, it did indeed happen as according to Mitch Lawrence of the New York Daily News, the Memphis Grizzlies, as verified by NBA sources, have signed former Indiana Pacer guard Jamaal Tinsley to a contract. He is expected to sign for the league’s veteran minimum ($1.2 million).
I think that this move – presumably signed off by team owner Michael Heisley – proves yet again why the team is retarding their progress as a team to watch and look out for. First they signed Allen Iverson to a contract; now he is away for yet-to-be-determined reasons (I say temper tantrum, but I digress). So how does Tinsley’s imminent signing solve any of the team’s immediate problems?
One must remember that he has baggage of his own; as a former member of the Indiana Pacers, he got into some legal trouble. Based just on that, a red flag should have came up. Apparently, Memphis is so desperate for point guard help that they forgot to do the one thing that any good NBA team would do – do some vetting of the player in question. The Grizzlies are getting exactly what they deserve with this transaction.
