Black Mamba Strikes For 40; Lakers Pull Past Pistons 106-93!
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main

You can always tell when one of the elite players in the Association is going to have one of those nights when they take it to another level by their eyes. There is an intensity; a focus that you can tell you are in for something special. The Los Angeles Lakers had lost their last two games in a row going into their contest against the Detroit Pistons at the Staples Center Tuesday night. You could tell by the look in Kobe Bryant’s eyes that he was not about to allow that losing streak to go to three games. The “Black Mamba” struck for 40 points leading his Lakers past the Pistons by a final score 0f 106-93.
Los Angeles took control of the contest in the second and third quarters and in spite of being out scored in the final 12 minutes by 12 points they would walk away with a rather easy victory. The Pistons were led by Will Bynum who came into the game off of the bench with 24 points. Lakers center Andrew Bynum recorded a double-double in the victory.
The two opponents were neck and neck in the opening period with the Lakers on top with a razor thin lead of 23-22. However they would increase their intensity on both sides of the floor in the second and walked into the locker room on top by a very comfortable margin of 57-42.
The third quarter was pretty much a continuation of the second as Los Angeles seemingly scored at will while keeping the Pistons from making any headway. As the two teams would enter the final 12 minutes of play the Lakers had this game as an almost guaranteed victory as they led Detoit 88-63. The fourth quarter was just extended garbage time.
Kobe Bryant looked like he was in mid-season form as he put up 40 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks while center Andrew Bynum recorded a double-double with 17 points, 12 boards, 1 assist and 1 block. Shannon Brown came off the bench and had 12 points, 3 rebounds and 1 steal while Jordan Farmar also came into the game off of the pine and added 10 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds and 1 steal.
Will Bynum has been one of the few bright spots in what has been a very lack luster season so far for the Pistons. The guard came off the bench with 24 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 block while Ben Gordon had 18 points, 1 assist and 1 steal. Jason Maxiell had a strong effort off the bench with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks while Rodney Stuckey added 11 points, 3 steals, 1 assist and 1 rebound. Los Angeles now with a record of 8-3 will host the Chicago Bulls Thursday while Detroit now at 5-6 will travel up the coast to Portland and will match up against theb Blazers Wednesday.
