Double-Double From King James Leads Cavaliers Past Warriors 114-108

The Golden State Warriors made their game against the Cleveland Cavaliers Tuesday night at the Q Arena interesting down the stretch. Heading into the final 12 minutes of play the Warriors trailed the Cavaliers by 11 points at 90-79. Golden State would get as close as 1 point down with 3:02 remaining in the period. However that was as close as they would come as Cleveland would hold on for their fifth straight win by a final score of 114-108. LeBron James wold lead all players with a double-double including a game high 31 points while Cleveland’s newest break-out star J.J. Hickson would add a career high 21 points.
The Warriors had just eight men in uniform which is the NBA minimum; however the seven who played all scored in double figures led by Monta Ellis with 23 points. Cleveland played without starting center Shaquille O’Neal who missed his second straight game with a strained right shoulder. They were also without power forward Anderson Varejao who missed the contest with a hip contusion and lost forward Jamario Moon for the rest of the night after the forward sprained his left ankle.
The Cavaliers dominated the first three quarters until the Warriors made their run in the fourth. Cleveland would hold a 35-30 lead at the end of the first quarter. They would head into the locker room at the half with a double digit advantage as Golden State trailed by a 66-55 margin.
The two teams played to a draw in the third and Cleveland had a healthy 90-79 advantage as the two clubs entered the fourth. Zydrunas Ilguaskas would lay the ball up and in to start the period and the Cavaliers looked like they were ready to put the Warriors away with the score 92-79. However Golden State would not go down without a fight as they would be within 1 point of knotting the game up 107-106 after Anthony Morrow knocked down a 24 foot trey with 3:02 left in regulation. That would be as close as the Warriors would get as Cleveland would hold on for the win.
LeBron James recorded a double-double with a game high 31 points, 12 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1 steal in the Cavaliers victory. J.J. Hickson scored 21 points, 9 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal while Mo Williams added 16 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals. Zydrunas Ilgauskas getting the start in the pivot in place of the ailing Shaq had 14 points while Daniel Gibson came in off the bench with 13 points.
Monta Ellis who is rumored to be on the trading block led the Warriors with 23 points, 8 assists, 3 steals, 2 rebounds and 1 block while Corey Maggette came off the bench and recorded a double-double as he had 19 points, 11 boards, 3 assists and 2 steals. Anthony Morrow would put up 18 points, rookie Stephen Curry added 14 more while Anthony Randolph came off the bench with 13 points. New member of the Warriors forward Vladimir Radmanovic had 11 points on the score sheet while veteran Mikki Moore had 10 points in the loss. Cleveland after starting out the season 0-2 is now 8-3 and will be in D.C. Wednesday to take on the Wizards. Golden State falls to 3-7 and will play in Boston Wednesday night and will face the Celtics.
