The Boston Celtics have a serious case of the “Hometown Friday Blues” going on as for the third straight week they lost a home game on a Friday night. This defeat was by far the worst as defending Eastern Conference Champions the Orlando Magic dominated the game from the first quarter on. The Magic held the vaunted Boston offense to just 34.5% (30-87) from the floor for the game and an embarrassing  10.5% (2-19) from outside the arc as they defeated the Celtics 83-78.

Vince Carter looking like he was in his salad days had a “Vinsanity” type performance with a game high 26 points. The Celtics were led by Paul Pierce with 21 points while Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett also scored in double figures however they got very little offensive support from the rest of the club.

The Celtics offense was non-existent in the first quarter and except for the second when they climbed back into the game it made only sporadic appearances throughout the evening. Orlando would come out strong as Boston looked like they were sleep walking in the first which resulted in the Magic taking a 29-13 lead at the end of the period. Orlando suddenly turned cold offensively in the second while the Celtics found their shooting touch. The Magic lead was down considerably at the half as they walked into their locker room ahead by just 3 points as the score was 43-40.

Neither team was particularly proficient in the second half however the Magic were able to increase their margin by the end of the period on top 66-59 heading into the final 12 minutes of play. Boston would make one final run in the fourth as Rasheed Wallace knocked down a shot 8 feet from the basket and knotting up the game at 78-78 with 2:54 left in the game. The Celtics never scored another point the rest of the game and Orlando got the win.

Vince Carter led all players as he had a game high 26 points, 6 assists, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks in the Magic victory. Rashard Lewis recorded a double-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block and 1 steal while Mickael Pietrus added 14 points and had 1 steal.

Paul Pierce led Boston as the veteran scored 21 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Ray Allen added 15 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals while Kevin Garnett recorded a double-double with 13 points, 11 boards, 3 blocks, 2 steals and 1 assist. Orlando improves to 10-3 and will play Sunday in Toronto as they face the Raptors while Boston drops to 9-4 and will be in New York on Sunday to take on the Knicks.
