Terry’s 4th Quarter Explosion Helps Mavericks Edge Kings 104-102
Posted by Stephen Rhodes under NBA Game Recap

It isn’t every day when your team gets half of its scoring output from their bench, yet that’s what happened Friday night at American Airlines Center; but to be fair, the Mavericks were missing three starters from their normal starting lineup. Jason Terry scored 12 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter, leading Dallas to a narrow 104-102 win over Sacramento.
The first quarter was relatively close as neither team shot especially well; Dallas did, however, start the gane on a quick 7-0 run, capped by a Jason Kidd three-pointer with 10:15 left in the period. But Sacramento would answer back with an 8-0 run of their own, courtesy of three Jason Thompson baskets and an Andres Nocioni field goal, putting them up 8-7. The rest of the quarter would be a game of attrition as the Kings would take a 24-22 lead into the second quarter. The Mavericks would retake the lead at 34-33 on a Dirk Nowitzki layup; Dallas would up their cushion to five as both teams went to their respective locker rooms at halftime.
The third quarter was much like the first as both teams shared leads several times; a Tyreke Evans layup would put Sacramento to within 68-65 going into the fourth quarter. The final period picked up offensively and with 1:15 left in the game, Kidd drained a trey, giving Dallas a ten-point lead which they would use to hold on for the victory.
Nowitzki and Terry shared high scoring honors for the Mavericks as both scored 20 each – with Nowitzki grabbing 5 rebounds, dishing out 7 assists with a steal and 2 blocks while Terry dished out 4 assists along with a steal and a block; Kidd and Kris Humphries added 15 apiece – with Kidd grabbing 4 rebounds, dishing out 11 assists along with 3 steals while Humphries grabbed 5 rebounds, dished out an assist along with 2 steals. Drew Gooden grabbed 16 boards in the Dallas’ win.
Sacramento was led by Evans with 29 points, 7 rebounds, 10 assists, a steal and a block while Beno Udrih added 20 with 4 rebounds, 5 assists and a block; Thompson chipped in 18 with 8 rebounds, a steal and 2 blocks while Nocioni scored 15 with 3 rebounds, 2 assists and a block. Dallas (10-3) plays again on Tuesday when they host the Golden State Warriors while Sacramento (5-6) makes the short trip to Houston to take on the Rockets on Saturday night.
