Antawn Is “Da Bomb” As Wizards Squeak by Sixers 108-107!

Even though the Butler wasn’t there the Wizards still did it; defeated the Philadelphia 76ers Tuesday night in a game that went down to the wire by a score of 108-107. Caron Butler was out of commission for the Wizards as the All-Star was out with an injury to his right ankle. However Antawn Jamison rose to the occasion recording a double-double including a game high 32 points. Philadelphia had a chance to pull the victory out at the end however Louis Williams missed an outside jumper with 1 second to play and the Wizards got the win.
Sixers point guard Williams led six Philadelphia players in double figures with 26 points while Thaddeus Young added 23 in the loss. Conspicuous in his lack of offense was the 76ers big man Elton Brand who had three strong games in the last week yet barely was a blip on the screen in this game as he had just 4 points and 7 rebounds. The victory snapped a two game losing streak by Washington and also provided their fans with comfort on the day the team lost its Owner Abe Pollin who passed away Tuesday at the age of 85.
The first half was extremely close with the Wizards holding a razor thin 23-22 lead at the end of the first quarter. Philadelphia would head into the locker room on the opposite side of that same equation as the Sixers were on top 46-45 as the game reached the half.
Washington looked like they were on the verge of making this game a rout in the third as Antawn Jamison knocked down a shot about a foot from the basket giving his team an 83-68 lead with 55 seconds left in the period. Philadelphia though went on a 7-2 spurt in the closing seconds to cut the Wizards advantage to 85-75 at the end of the period. Philadelphia spent the final 12 minutes getting themselves back into the game and were able to cut the margin to a single point however they never got any closer.
Antawn Jamison recorded a double with a game high 32 points, 14 boards, 3 assists and 1 steal while Nick Young had 20 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Gilbert Arenas scored 17 points, 8 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal while Andray Blatche had a nice game off of the bench as he added 14 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block and 1 steal.
Louis Williams led the Sixers with 26 points, 5 assists , 4 rebounds and 1 steal while Thaddeus Young had 23 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. Veteran center Samuel Dalembert scored 15 points while Jason Smith came off the bench with 14 more. Andre Iguodala put up 12 points while Jrue Holiday added 11 points in the loss. Washington with the victory now have a record of 4-9 and will play Friday in Miami as it will be time to face the Heat. Philadelphia is now 5-9 and will play Wednesday in Boston as they take on the Celtics.
