Sacramento Kings forward Donte Greene

The Sacramento Kings, in their game against the New York Knicks at Arco Arena Wednesday night, had the luxury of not relying solely on rookie Tyreke Evans for their offensive load. I am not certain whether it is the water locally, but the Kings played arguably their best game of the young season. But their hero this time around was Donte Greene; he would score a career-high 24 points, including six three-pointers, leading Sacramento to easily dispose of New York 111-97.

The Kings got off to a rather hot start as they jetted to a 19-6 advantage, courtesy of a Greene 3-pointer with 6:01 left in the first period; the Knicks would cut their deficit to four on a David Lee jumper. A Sergio Rodriguez layup with 30 seconds left gave Sacramento a 30-24 lead going into the second quarter. A Evans layup would give Sacramento a 15-point bulge at 43-28; after a Knicks timeout, they would reduce their deficit to ten on a pair of free throws by Al Harrington with 28 seconds left, allowing New York to go into halftime down 61-51.

Sacramento would open the third quarter with a quick 10-2 run, upping their edge to 71-53, capped by a Evans jumper; they would have a lead by as much as 23 before settling for a 93-73 lead going into the fourth quarter. Sacramento would ice the game with 8:14 left in the game on a Jon Brockman tip-in and would coast from there.

Seven Kings players scored in double-digits, led by Greene with 24 points (including 6 three-pointers), 4 rebounds, 5 assists, a steal and 6 blocks while Evans put in 19 with 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals; Spencer Hawes added 16 with 3 rebounds and an assist while Rodriguez chipped in 15 from off the bench with 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.

The Knicks were led by Lee and Nate Robinson with 25 points each – with Lee grabbing 12 rebounds, an assist and 2 steals while Robinson drained 4 three-pointers, grabbed 2 boards, dished out 5 assists along with a steal; Harrington added 17 with 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Sacramento (6-8) plays again on Friday when they continue their home stand, hosting the New Jersey Nets while New York (3-12) travels to Denver to take on the Nuggets – also on Friday night.
