Last Second Shot By J-Terry Pushes Mavericks Past Sixers 104-102!
Posted by Jeff Sack under NBA Game Recap

Some nights it is not the number of points that you score as much as when you score them that is important. That happened to be the case for Dallas Mavericks guard Jason Terry Monday night as he scored just 7 points against the Philadelphia 76ers however 2 of those points were the most important of the game. They came with just 1.4 seconds left to play and gave Dallas the go-ahead basket to beat the Sixers 104-102 at the American Airlines Center. The victory gives Dallas a 13-5 record in the still young NBA campaign while Philadelphia has lost 7 straight to fall to 5-13.
Dirk Nowitzki led all players with 28 points while his teammate point guard Jason Kidd had a “Back To The Future” night recording a double-double and looking like he had when he was leading New Jersey to the NBA Finals. The Sixers played with Elton Brand coming off the bench in an effort to shake things up.
Philadelphia went with three guards in their starting lineup with Jrue Holiday, Andre Iguodala and Willie Green. Green led the team with 23 points while Brand was effective coming in off the pine as he recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 boards. However it was enough to get the club to break their losing streak.
The Mavericks would dominate in the first half however Philadelphia came back to make it a contest in the second half. Dallas pulled out to a 28-23 advantage at the end of the first. They appeared to be on the verge of running away with the game in the second as they walked into the locker room at the half on top 57-43.
Philadelphia came out of the locker room at the half and started playing some serious basketball in the third quarter. By the time the smoke had cleared Dallas had just a 6 point as the two opponents went into the final quarter with score 78-72. The Mavericks led by a large margin for much of the fourth but the Sixers kept coming back. With just 5 seconds to play Andre Igoudala drained a 24 foot trey and the score was knotted up at 102-102. That set the stage for the dramatic shot by Jason Terry that sent the Dallas crowd home happy.
Dirk Nowitzki had a game high 28 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists while J-Kidd recorded a double-double with 22 points, 11 assists, 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 blocks. Drew Gooden came off the bench with a double-double putting 15 points on the board while grabbing 10 rebounds off the backboard, 2 blocks and 1 steal. Shawn Marion scored 14 points and Jose Juan Barea came off the bench and added 11 more.
Willie Green would lead the Sixers as he scored 23 points and had 1 steal in the loss. Elton Brand recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds while Thaddeus Young had 21 points, 7 rebounds and 1 assist. Andre Iguodala added 19 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 1 block.
Dallas with a record of 13-5 will be in New Jersey Wednesday night as they may be making history. The Nets are currently in a three way tie for the worst start in the history of the Association. If Dallas wins New Jersey would stand alone in infamy. Philadelphia is now 5-13 and will look to break their own losing streak in Oklahoma City as they take on the Thunder.
