Nets Are Number One! Set Record For Worst NBA Start As They Lose To Mavs 117-101
Posted by Jeff Sack under NBA Game Recap, NBA Record Breaker

Would you rather be just another really bad team; or would you prefer to be the “Worst Team Of All Time“? Sure you would be more “infamous” than “famous” but you would stand out that is for sure. Lots of teams have been lousy, bad, disappointing but there is a little something extra to be labeled as the “Worst Team Of All Time.”
It is one thing to be just another loser; but to be the “Biggest Loser In History” one could almost feel some sort of sense of accomplishment. The NBA has been in existence for over 60 years to be designated with such a title means that every other bad team in the history of the Association does not hold a candle to you!
The New Jersey Nets set the NBA mark in futility on Wednesday night as they lost ugly to the Dallas Mavericks at the Izod Center by the final score of 117-101. By losing this game they break their three way tide with editions of the Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Clippers to stand alone at the bottom of the battle.
The most pertinent question for the team right now is can they possibly stay bad enough to surpass the 1972-1973 Philadelphia 76ers as the team with the worst record for an entire season? Philadelphia went 9-73 that year which means they averaged one win every 9 games. Right now with the Nets at 0-18 to start off the season they are on pace to easily break that mark. Think of it to break two long standing records of the Association in the same season would be quite a feat.
However the question that no reporter yet has had the guts to ask to ask is this; is there any possibility that New Jersey could go an entire 82 game campaign without winning one game? The odds of it happening are most likely infintesimal especially with teams like the Minnesota Timberwolves in the current Association. However the possibility however remote still does remain!
The New Jersey losing streak could have easily ended on Wednesday night but the forces of history would not be denied. Even though Dallas was outscored by New Jersey in three out of four quarters by the score of 79-68 destiny would not be denied. Dallas assured themselves of the win in the second quarter as they beat up on New Jersey in the period by a 49-22 margin giving them plenty of breathing space.
The Mavericks shot a scalding 58.7% (44-75) from the floor for the game with six players in double figures. Dirk Nowitzki led Dallas with 24 points in the victory. The Nets were held to just 44.2% (34-77) from the field while Chris Douglas-Roberts would be the club’s high scorer as he also had 24 points. Dallas with the victory improves to 14-5 and will play on Friday as they travel to Memphis to face the Grizzlies. New Jersey is now at a record setting mark of 0-18 and will host the Charlotte Bobcats Friday.
