76ers Bobcats Basketball

There have been some very impressive starts so far in the NBA campaign; with some coming from the usual suspects (Lakers, Cavaliers, Celtics, Magic and Nuggets) and some pleasant surprises (Suns and Hawks.) There have also been some absolutely horrific starts chief among them the New Jersey Nets. However there is one team currently in the NBA scrap-pile that most Association observers did not expect to be there. That would be the Philadelphia 76ers who lost their ninth consecutive game Saturday to the Charlotte Bobcats 106-105.

The Sixers looked like they were on their way to a victory but the B-Cats with big nights from Boris Diaw and Gerald Wallace came up big down the stretch. However it would be point guard Raymond Felton with a key shot in the closing seconds to  get the win. Charlotte bounced back from being the first team this season to lose to the New Jersey Nets Friday.

Guard Willie Green had another impressive night for Philadelphia as he would drop 26 points in the loss while Andre Iguodala would add 22. Philadelphia played without their newest player veteran Allen Iverson who is expected  to practice with the club Sunday and make his debut against one of his other former teams the Denver Nuggets.

Charlotte head coach Larry Brown was not a happy camper Friday night  as his team became the first club all season to lose to New Jersey who had a record of 0-18 going into the contest. If the Bobcats had allowed the 76ers to end their 8 game losing streak on Saturday reporters might have seen body parts flung out of the door of the Charlotte locker-room.

The Bobcats came out as the aggressor in the first and would grab a 28-22 lead as the period came to an end. However the 76ers would cut the lead to a single point  in the second quarter and the B-Cats lead was a razor thin 49-48 as the game reached the half.

The Sixers may have played their best quarter of basketball this season in the third as they had 38 points in the period and would hold an 86-78 advantage as the two opponents  readied themselves for the fourth.  Philadelphia  would lead  the entire period until with just 17 seconds to play Boris Diaw drove the lane putting the ball up and in giving Charlotte a 104-103 lead. Iguodala would hit a pair at the line setting the scene for Raymond Felton’s winning bucket with 4 seconds left and the Bobcats held on for the win.

Boris Diaw led all players with 28 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks and 1 steal while Gerald Wallace recorded a double-double scoring 24 points, 14 boards, 4 assists, 3 steals and 1 block. Raymond Felton added 18 points, 8 assists, 3 rebounds and 1 steal while Stephen Jackson had 13 points, 44 assists and 1 rebound.

Willie Green was the high scorer for the Sixers with 26 points, 4 assists and 1 block while Andre Iguodala recorded a double-double scoring 22 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals. Thaddeus Young also had a double-double including 17 points, 11 boards, 2 assists and 2 steals while Elton Brand and Jason Kapono each added 14 points in the loss. Charlotte improves to 8-11 and will host Denver Tuesday while Philadelphia is now 5-15 and wiill play host to the Nuggets Monday.
