Vince Carter

During Saturday’s game between the Golden State Warriors and Orlando Magic at Oracle Arena, a different version of Vince Carter came out to play. In this case, a younger version. He had a pretty decent overall game as he scored 26 points, helping Orlando rally to defeat Golden State 126-118.

A Dwight Howard dunk would cap an early 11-4 run by the Magic; things got bad enough for the Warriors that Orlando carried a 30-15 lead at the 4:58 mark of the first quarter. Their lead was as high as 16, but Golden State persevered, getting their deficit down to seven at 40-33 on a C.J. Watson jumper; Jason Williams’ layup with 10 seconds left in the period gave Orlando a 42-33 edge going into the second quarter. The Magic would increase their lead into double-digits and would increase their cushion to 15 on a Marcin Gortat dunk with 7:24 left in the half. Monta Ellis’ free throw would get the Warriors to within 66-59, but Orlando would take a 72-64 lead going into halftime.

The Warriors would methodically chop away at the Magic’s lead, tying the game at 93-1ll on a Stephen Curry basket with 2:27 remaining in the third quarter and would retake the lead on a Vladimir Radmanovic trey, giving Golden State a 96-95 lead; they would take a 100-97 edge going into the final 12 minutes. After a Warriors timeout with 5:37 left in the game, the Magic would regain the lead on a Carter three-pointer and seal the win on a pair of Carter free throws with 3:17 remaining in the contest.

Orlando’s high scorer was Carter with 27 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals and a block while Mickael Pietrus added 22 (including 4 three-pointers) with 3 rebounds, a steal and a block; Rashard Lewis chipped in 20 (including 3 treys) with 4 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal while Howard powered in 17 with 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks.

Golden State was led by Ellis with a game-high 33 points, 2 rebounds, 7 assists and a steal but committed 7 turnovers while Anthony Randolph came off the bench to score 28 with 13 rebounds, 5 assists, a steal and a block; Watson added 17 with 2 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. Orlando (16-4) plays again on Tuesday when they make the coast-to-coast trip to Los Angeles to take on the Clippers while Golden State (6-13) visits Oklahoma City to face the Thunder on Monday.
