Wednesday night the Houston Rockets knew what they had to do to attain a victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. They had to go Old School and  play some “HEAVY D” and strut around like “Mr. Big Stuff” in order to get the win and they did exactly that holding the Cavaliers to their lowest offensive night of the season and grabbing a 95-85 win.

Cleveland All-Star forward LeBron James  was the only starter on his team to score in double figures with 27 points however his shooting percentage was not at all good  as he went 8-21 from the floor. Aaron Brooks scored 27 for the Rockets while Trevor Ariza added 26 more in the win. It was the second straight loss for Cleveland who lost to the Memphis Grizzlies in overtime Tuesday night 111-109. The victory for the Rockets was their fourth in their last five games.

Houston basically took the game in the first quarter and for all intent and purposes it easily could have ended after those first 12 minutes. Cleveland was never able to regain their footing and really could not get close enough to challenge for the balance of the night.

The Rockets blasted off in the first quarter and when the smoke cleared they were on top 33-19 at the end of the period. For those of us old enough to remember it was almost like watching a Mohamed Ali fight in reverse. The Rockets built a big enough lead in the first to be able to play ”Rope-A-Dope” for the final three quarters. The Cavaliers were able to shave one point off the lead in the second quarter but Houston would walk into the locker room leading 52-39 at the half.

The Cavaliers were able to get within 10 points at the end of the third quarter as they trailed heading into the final 12 minutes of play 68-58. However every time Cleveland would try to challenge in the fourth the Rockets would answer back leading to the lopsided win.

Aaron Brooks had 27 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds and 1 steal while Trevor Ariza added 26 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Shane  Battier scored 14 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks while Carl Landry came off the bench with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 1 block.

LeBron James scored 27 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal but it was not a pretty night for the Cleveland All-Star as Battier defended him solidly. Delonte West had another nice game off the bench as gets back in the flow for the Cavaliers as he had 14 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds and 2 steals. Anderson Varejao was the only other player on the club in double figures with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 1 steal. Houston with the victory has a record of 12-9 and will play in Philadelphia Friday night while Cleveland now has a mark of 15-7 and will host Portland on Friday.
