Roy Leads Undermanned Trail Blazers Past Pacers 102-91
Posted by Stephen Rhodes under NBA Game Recap

Typically, if you’re a NBA franchise that has only nine players in uniform, the chances of your team winning are reduced markedly. But then again, the Portland Trail Blazers aren’t your typical NBA club. After all, they were without, prior to their game against the Indiana Pacers Wednesday at Conseco Fieldhouse, Greg Oden (knee), Rudy Fernandez (sciatica) and Travis Outlaw (left foot). The rash of injuries apparently were of no concern as Brandon Roy scored 29 points, leading Portland to a convincing 102-91 win over Indiana.
The Blazers shot nearly 53% in the first quarter and would open their biggest lead, 26-15, on a Roy three-pointer; the Pacers would get to within four late in the second period, but a pair of free throws by LaMarcus Aldridge pushed Portland’s lead back to 52-45, which was the halftime score as both teams adjourned to their locker rooms.
Indiana slowly chipped away at their deficit before tying the game at 83-all on a Luther Head jumper with 8 minutes left in the fourth quarter; the Trail Blazers would use an 8-2 run, capped by an Andre Miller layup, to take a 100-91 lead, essentially icing the game for Portland. With the win, the Blazers snapped a 4-game skid while the Pacers have lost ten of their last 11 games.
The Blazers were led by Roy with 29 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists while Aldridge added 20 with 8 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal and a block; Miller pitched in 15 with a rebound, 2 assists, 4 steals and a block. Dahntay Jones led the Pacers with 19 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists while Tyler Hansbrough came off the bench to score 13 with 11 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal.
Portland (14-9) plays again on Friday when they make the short commute to Cleveland to take on the Cavaliers while Indiana (6-13) remains at home to host the New Jersey Nets – also on Friday night.
