Bulls End Four-Game Skid, Edge Warriors In OT 96-91

Mindful of the fact that they have to play the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers within the next few days, the Chicago Bulls were looking to build some momentum as they hosted the Golden State Warriors on Friday night. While the Warriors are a last-place team in their division, the Bulls were definitely tested as the game went into overtime; baskets by Luol Deng and Derrick Rose with 2:53 left in OT helped Chicago get past Golden State 97-91 at the United Center.
Both teams shared several leads during the first quarter, but a 3-pointer by Anthony Morrow with one second left in the period enabled the Warriors to take a 28-26 lead entering the second quarter. C.J. Watson drained a jumper, giving Golden State a 33-28 edge; after a timeout, Monta Ellis’ layup would put the Warriors up 41-36 and Chicago would take a timeout. Four points in the final 1:15 by Ellis sent Golden State to their locker room with a 51-44 lead at halftime.
With Chicago trailing 58-52 halfway through the third quarter, Deng scored nine points during a 15-0 run. He made a jumper to give the Bulls a 59-58 lead and later capped the run with a jumperto put them ahead 67-58. The Warriors would regain the lead with a 12-2 run, capped by a drive by Stephen Curry, which gave Golden State a 70-69 lead going into the fourth quarter. As in the first period, there were several lead changes; Ellis would tie the game at 87-all on a layup with1:17 left in the period. A Rose jumper would come up short, sending the game into overtime. With 3:16 remaining in overtime, Deng drained a jumper and Rose iced the game for the Bulls witha free throw with 11 seconds remaining.
Deng led the balanced Bulls scoring with 21 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, a steal and a block while Joakim Noah added 18 with 14 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal and 3 blocks; Rose contributed 15 with2 rebounds and 5 assists and Brad Miller notched a double-double, scoring 12 with 13 boards.
The Warriors were led by Ellis with 27 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, a steal and a block while Corey Maggette added 14 with 10 rebounds, an assist and a block. Chicago (8-13) plays again on Saturday when they continue their home stand, hosting the Boston Celtics while Golden State (7-15) makes the short flight to Detroit to take on the Pistons – also on Saturday.
