I am completely nauseated by Tim Donaghy and his recent claims that the NBA is entertainment and not a sport. Tim you know what entertainment is? Watching the empire of Tiger Woods collapse in front of the media. If you have any doubts just look at the NY Post. Just take today for example “Sex Scandal Bombshell” “Tiger Pulls Out!” The media is OBSESSED with a story. Whether there is any truth is beside the point. Tim Donaghy stole a headline in a preposterous attempt to sell a book. So what does that tell you? He is a fraud. Why did 60 Minutes legitimize this man?

Does the NBA have some issues? YES. That can also be said about the NHL, MLB, and the NFL. Is he the only referee that gambled on basketball? I doubt it. He gambled on the game that paid him 300k a year. He lost the right to comment about basketball once he committed that act of COMPLETE disrespect.

Do I feel that basketball generates entertainment? Sure I tune in every Thursday night just to see what Ernie, Kenny, C Webb, and Barkley say. In fact I live for it. That group of commentators is the best combo on TV. I wish there were more shows with Barkley and Smith. Whether he is taking shots of Mad Dog or talking about ice cream and lemon tasty cakes he is ENTERTAINMENT. The NBA enables shows like this to exist on TV. This show is staged and rehearsed NOT the NBA. There are too many variables in the NBA for the sport to be fixed.

Some players get preferential treatment. This occurs in any sport however. Don’t tell me Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Brett Favre don’t have a special set of rules. Same can be said in the NHL with Ovechkin and Crosby. In fact a boulder was moved for Tiger Woods once during a tournament. I feel confident that the NBA is a legitimate sport. There is no hanky-panky. The emotions of LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, and Dwight Howard are real. This isn’t the world of Vince McMahon or Puff the Magic Dragon. Donaghy however reminded me of how much I love the entertainment value of Barkley and the TNT crew. Tim go back to your fraudulent life and into obscurity. I won’t waste my money on your fictitious book.

One Response to “Why Is The Media Wasting Their Time On Donaghy?”

I think there is truth in what Donaghy is saying. If there was no truth the NBA would be suing him and responding to his allegations. I do not buy them taking the high road and keeping silent. I plan to buy each family member a copy of Donaghy’s book for christmas and all my friends who like the NBA.
