76ers Losing Streak Ends At Twelve, Slam Warriors 117-101

Thaddeus Young

As those of you who follow the NBA and the Philadelphia 76ers already know, the team, prior to their game against the Golden State Warriors Monday night at Wachovia Center, was in the middle of a 12-game losing streak. And it didn’t help matters that recently signed Allen Iverson had some fluid drained from his knee earlier today. Apparently, the procedure helped as he and Thaddeus Young combined for 46 points, leading Philadelphia to a convincing 117-101 win over Golden State.

Iverson teamed with Young to make eight of 11 shots in the opening quarter to help build a 12-point lead; Young would continue his hot shooting in the second quarter as he would score 14 points and help Philadelphia increase their lead to 15. They would go to their locker room at halftime up 71-57. Iverson drained a jumper with 6:48 left in the third quarter, giving the Sixers a 21-point cushion at 81-60 and would have a lead as big as 32 before going into the final 12 minutes ahead 97-68. Philadelphia sealed the win with 9:08 left in the game on a Willie Green trey and would coast from there.

Seven Sixers players scored in double-digits, led by Young with 26 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and a block while Iverson added 20 with 2 rebounds and 4 assists; Jrue Holiday chipped in 15 with 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals while Samuel Dalembert notched a double-double, scoring 12 with 13 rebounds, an assist and 4 blocks. Golden State was led by Corey Maggette with 24 points from off the bench along with 3 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal while Anthony Randolph added 15 with 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks.

Philadelphia (6-18) plays again on Wednesday when they host the ClevelandCavaliers while Golden State (7-17) returns home for a brief two-game home stand, hosting the San Antonio Spurs – also on Wednesday night.
