Celtics Beat Those Memphis Blues With 110-105 Win Over Grizzlies!

Memphis is the home of the “Blues” but on Monday night it was the color “Green” that stood out; “Celtics Green” that is as the Boston Celtics got past the Memphis Grizzlies by a final score of 110-105. Both teams shot well from the floor for the game however the Celtics shot just a tad better as they shot 52.5% (42-80) and 50% (10-20) from outside the arc.
The Grizzlies shot 51.2% (42-82) from the floor but were awful from three point range as they hit just 1-13. Boston was led by Paul Pierce with 19 points but Rudy Gay was the leading scorer of the game as he had 23 points one night after scoring a career high 41 points in Miami against the Heat.
The win was the eleventh straight for the Celtics who now have the best record in the Association as well as being the first team to attain 20 wins in this campaign. Boston suffered their last loss at home against the Orlando Magic as they fell to defeat by the score of 83-78. Out of the Celtics four losses for the season three have occurred at the “New Garden.”
The Grizzlies mean while may be playing their best basketball since their days being coached by Hubie Brown. Lionel Hollins seems to be using the right touch as coach and players such as Gay, O.J. Mayo, Marc Gasol and Mike Conley have started to mature. Memphis also seems to be benefiting from the veteran presence of Zach Randolph who so far has done all the right things with the Grizzlies.
This game really did come down to the last few minutes before the outcome was decided. The Grizzlies would take the advantage at the end of the first as they were on top 31-28. They would still hold the lead although it would be razor thin as the game reached the half and the score was 55-54.
The Celtics would take the lead at the end of the third and the two teams would head into the final 12 minutes of play with Boston leading 85-81. The Celtics would get their advantage up to 8 points but back to back hoops by O.J. Mayo would cut the score to 103-101 with just 1:29 left to play. Boston would call a time out to regroup and then Kevin Garnett connected on an outside jumper with 1:20 left giving his team a 105-101 lead. Memphis lost their momentum and the Celtics held on for the win.
Paul Pierce led the Celtics with 19 points, 6 assists, 2 blocks, 2 rebounds and 1 steal in the win. Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo each scored 18 points for Boston while Rasheed Wallace had another strong night off the bench with 15 points. Kevin Garnett and Kendrick Perkins both added 13 points in the victory.
Rudy Gay had a game high 23 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists and 1 block while O.J. Mayo scored 21 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. Zach Randolph added 20 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals while Marc Gasol had 15 points, 8 boards and 1 assist. Mike Conley and Sam Young both had 11 points in the loss. Boston now has a record of 20-4 and will be off until Friday when they play host to Philadelphia. Memphis is now 10-14 and will play in Atlanta on Thursday.
