The New Jersey Net were able to play quite competitively for the first 24 minutes of their game against the Los Angeles Lakers as the two teams squared off at the Izod Center in New Jersey Saturday night. In fact the Nets even held the lead at the half. However as the Nets and their fans are all too well aware there are 48 minutes in an NBA game and New Jersey did not play nearly as well in the second half as they were beaten up and left by the side of the road at the end of the night as the Lakers won 103-84.

Los Angeles had three players with double-doubles in the victory led by Kobe Bryant with a game high 29 points. Devin Harris led New Jersey with 21 points and Nets center Brook Lopez would also record a double-double in the loss. New Jersey is playing at a historic pace; at 2-26 they are on schedule to end up with less wins than the 1972-1973 Philadelphia 76ers who had just 9. If the Nets maintain their current clip they will be in the NBA Record Books at the end of the season as “The Worst NBA Team Of All Time!” Wouldn’t you just love to be at that parade?

The Lakers came out with guns blazing in the first and would hold a 29-21 advantage at the end of the period. But they simply lost their shooting touch in the second and New Jersey took full advantage and would have their fans pleasantly surprised at the half as the Nets led 48-46.

That feeling of elation vanished quite quickly in the third quarter as this time it  would be New Jersey who would find their basket had a lid on it. Los Angeles found their offense in perfect working condition and they led by 10 at the end of the period 74-64. The Nets would never come close to mounting a challenge in the final quarter.

Kobe Bryant recorded a double-double with 29 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists 1 steal and 1 block. Pau Gasol had a double-double with 14 points, 14 boards, 6 assists and 1 steal while Lamar Odom also had a double-double also scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal. Jordan Farmar came off the bench and added another 14 points, 3 assists and 2 steals while Derek Fisher had 11 points, 3 assists and 1 rebound.

Devin Harris led the Nets with 21 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 1 block. Chris Douglas-Roberts scored 20 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist while Brook Lopez had another double-double as he had 18 points, 11 boards, 4 assists and 2 blocks. Los Angeles has the best record in the Association at 21-4 and will play in Detroit Sunday as they go up against the Pistons while New Jersey is 2-26 and will host the Minnesota Timberwolves Wednesday.
