Redick, Lewis Lead Late Charge; Magic Quiets Jazz 104-99
Posted by Stephen Rhodes under NBA Game Recap

Typically when you need offense out of the Orlando Magic late in the game, you usually think of either Dwight Howard, Vince Carter or even Rashard Lewis. But an unlikely source came to the forefront during the Magic-Utah Jazz game on Monday night. The suspect? Oddly enough, J.J. Redick. As it appeared that the Jazz would sock this victory away, Redick and Lewis led a 15-2 run late in the fourth quarter, helping the Magic pull away with the 104-99 win over Utah at Amway Arena. This game also marked the return of the Magic’s Jameer Nelson.
The first quarter was very sloppy as neither team shot very well and Utah held the largest lead at three at 14-11 with 2:53 left in the period; a Vince Carter three-pointer with one second left helped Orlando take a 19-18 lead going into the second quarter. The Magic slowly built a 6-point lead which would soon enlarge to eleven at 3:24 in the first half; with 33 seconds left in the second period, Deron Williams’ jumper tied the game at 40.
The lead would change hands several times before Brandon Bass drained a pair of free throws with 1:40 left in the third quarter, giving the Magic a six-point lead at 69-63 but the Jazz chipped away until they reduced their deficit to two on a C.J. Miles layup with 40 seconds left in the period. The second half was close until Redick and Lewis got hot. Utah was ahead 84-79 when Lewis hit a pair of 3-pointers, Redick chipped in another and added two layups to help stretch Orlando’s lead to 94-86. The deficit was too much for the Jazz to overcome.
Howard led the Magic with 21 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and 5 blocks while Redick came off the bench to score 20 witha rebound and a steal; Lewis and Carter added 18 each – with Lewis hitting 4 three-pointers, grabbing 4 rebounds, dishing out 2 assists along with a steal and a block while Carter grabbed 9 boards and dished out 3 assists. The Jazz was led by Paul Millsap from off the bench with 20 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal while Williams added 18 with 2 rebounds and 12 assists; Carlos Boozer chipped in 17 with 8 rebounds, 3 assists and a block.
Orlando (21-7) plays again on Wednesday when they host the Houston Rockets while Utah (16-12) makes the short trip south to Miami to take on the Heat – also on Wednesday night.
