Despite popular belief, NBA players aren’t the only ones who thrive during a contract year. Even NBA coaches prosper during the final year of their current contract. Two NBA coaches automatically come to mind: the Atlanta Hawks’ Mike Woodson and Denver’s George Karl.
How the Hawks handle the contract of Woodson is speculative at this point, but Karl’s is a bit more definitive as according to Benjamin Hochamn of the Denver Post, representatives of the Nuggets’ head coach and Kroenke Sports Enterprises (parent company of the team) are continuing discussions about a contract extension. An unnamed source has said that an offer has been made to Karl of three years and $12 million, but no immediate response from Team Karl, as of this post.
According to Karl:
“I’ve always said I want to be in Denver, nothing’s changed there. When you see all this stuff that’s written, it just makes it sad that I’m probably going to have to be a businessman. I don’t want to be a businessman — I want to be wanted, signed and move on.”
